Congratulations to Teagan, Lauren, Lily and Zoey on winning certificates/prizes in the December Assembly for handwriting and good behaviour. Well done girls.
For the last few weeks, we have had a V.I.P visit our classroom all the way from the North Pole. Our elf 'Buddy' came to visit during the day and reported back to Santa at night about those who've been naughty or nice!!! Of course we are all on the good list! Here are some pictures of what Buddy got up to.
This month we have been looking at energy and forces. First of all we looked at magnets. We learned that magnets are attracted to metals and can work through glass, wood and paper. Then we looked at making our own type magnetic energy using balloons. By rubbing our balloons off our heads and hair, we made them stick or attract different things. We found out that the balloons stuck to the cupboards, the wall, our hair and they attracted paper too.
The next Do this in Memory mass will take place on Sunday 17th December at 10am.
This week was Science Week and as part of this , we had a very special visitor, Shane McCartan, come in and explain how he uses science in his job as a detective. He talked about finger prints and how they are useful for catching criminals. He explained how none of us have the same fingerprints not even twins. Then he took all our fingerprints using special ink and we put them in our hardbacks.
The rest of the week we studied Space and The Planets and who discovered Gravity. We learned a special way of remembering the order of the planets- My Very Enthusiastic Mother Just Served Us Noodles( Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune).
We integrated Science into our art this week as we drew our own alien using pastels.
Before the midterm break we worked on learning about 2d shapes and their properties. Aware of this, we worked on making 2D shapes using tangrams, playdough and lollipop sticks. We even made shape mobiles.
